Neoliberal capitalism is a form of political economy rooted in an ideology of neoliberalism that emphasizes the need to discursively promote a ‘free’ market, while simultaneously ignoring the power relations and disparities embedded in our current structures of ownership and power. It is characterized by a select group of powerful actors and elites who manipulate global markets and free trade agreements to maintain their monopoly on power and resources, as well as a focus on deregulation and privatization of state goods and services. This form of capitalism also upholds the interests of multinational corporations over those of individuals, communities, and the environment.
